For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return.

Really though a sense of wonder and discovery is not about our location, but our vision.
 
Last night my daughter was playing in the bathroom when she heard water running above her and thought it was dripping.
 
When we came to check it out, we had to move the ceiling tiles.

I don’t go peeking under mossy outcrops to see if they might be hiding out or look for signs they may have left as they heard me coming and fled.

But I do believe in them, just as I believe in all sorts of created creatures, fantastic figments, impossible dreams and flights of fancy.

Our daughter Skye is 4.
 
She doesn’t yet know how to read notes, or memorize songs.
 
When she gets in the kitchen, she doesn’t know how to read and measure ingredients or bake something worth eating.
 
But she sure knows how to play.
 
She can sit at the piano and play whatever notes she feels like while improvising lyrics for her makeshift compositions ad infinitum.

Today  marks 20 years since the beginning of the fall of the Soviet Union.


 

It reminds me of the night my parents awoke me up from a deep  sleep and we rushed to the city center of Sofia, Bulgaria to witness a turning  point in the country's history.
